Team Campo --
You're "awesome!" Congratulations to all swimmers, coaches, parents,
siblings, grandparents and other supporters for a great three-day OMPA
event for CCC.
Huge thanks to all parents who worked Spirit Week, the meet, and the
Post-OMPA dinner; bought program ads, programs and T-shirts; brought
food and drink for the team and coaches; and cheered on their swimmers
through a Moraga summer heat that nearly melted even the most die-hard
swim meet fans.
A high-five to all swimmers who braved early-morning warm-ups, swam in
their first big meet ever or made the finals against stiff competition,
achieved their "personal best" as encouraged by Kristen Lewis, OMPA
speaker and former Campolindo High School swimmer, and had a great
time. A special thanks to six-year-old Maria Sanderson, who only
recently started swimming in dual meets, for swimming in the first race
Sunday morning as the only swimmer -- winning her backstroke heat and
coming up smiling! That's the Campo spirit.
Big kudos to our enthusiastic and talented coaching crew -- including
Mike, Trevor, Devon, Marisa, Adrienne, Amanda, Lindsay, Tristan,
Stefanie, Eric, Ben, Matt, Alyson, Sean, Dana, Sara and Shane -- for all
you've done throughout the summer and through the meet, for our kids.
You're the best!
And deep appreciation to all those on the swim team board and committees
who spent countless hours helping make it all come together -- there are
lots of unsung heroes in every pocket of our team.
Enjoy the story below, relive your favorite OMPA moments, and don't
forget to go cheer on our County swimmers at the really big meet at
Acalanes High School Aug. 13 and 14!
Cheers,
Cathy Morley Foster

CCC RECORDS, TIMES DROP LIKE ORANGE RAIN AT 2005 OMPA
Bartis Takes High Point, Schonborn is High-Point Runner-Up, Cleak is
Third-Place High-Point Runner-Up
Campolindo Cabana Club swimmers again proved their swimming prowess,
moving up to 8th place out of 10 teams, from a 9th-place finish in 2004,
at the 49th Annual Orinda-Moraga Pool Association (OMPA) Championship
Swim Meet at the Soda Aquatics Center Aug. 5-7.
Tyler Bartis, 8, took the 7-8 boys OMPA high-point award, capturing
first place in all three of his events: individual medley, butterfly,
and breaststroke, narrowly missing the breaststroke meet record of
17.63, but breaking his own team record again with a 17.73. Bartis
continued his undefeated streak in all his swim events during the 2005
summer season.
Coach Lindsay Schonborn, 17, tied for high point runner-up for 15-18
girls at the event. She took second in the 100-yard freestyle with a
55.66, breaking Carrie Evans' 19-year-old team record of 56.10. She took
second in the 50-yard breaststroke at 32.29, breaking sister Kelly
Evans' 18-year-old team record of 32.65. She also took second in IM.
In a new development, it was revealed that inaccuracies in the
high-point scoring for 11-12 girls resulted in Rachel Cleak taking her
rightful place as third-place high-point runner-up. Rachel took fourth
in IM, second in freestyle, and third in butterfly, setting a new team
record at 29.44, breaking Vivian Tsai's 18-year-old record of 29.77.
Also breaking a team record was the 15-18 boys 200-yard free relay squad
of T.J. Barni, Tristan Kaiser, Dana Foster and Eric Johnson, which
placed fifth in the event. The quartet's time of 1:32.43 breaks a
20-year-old record of 1:32.82 set by Young, Arth, Drummond and Johnston
in 1985.

2005/08/03 (revised 8/5):
Team Campo:
With the OMPA Championship just days away, plan around these important
dates, times and details -- and check family folders plus refer to your
CCC
OMPA SURVIVAL GUIDE (PDF), the
OMPA web-site, and this site!
THURSDAY, AUG. 4 PRE-MEET WARM-UPS,
PROGRAMS, T-SHIRTS, ETC.
2:30-3:15 p.m. Our swimmers warm-up in the Soda Center/Campo HS pool
where the meet will be held. Check coaches for details. Campo swimmers,
be ready to go with caps and goggles on the pool deck.
NOTE: This is the best time to buy meet programs, T-shirts and other
OMPA merchandise. These often are gone or nearly gone by the meet's
start.
THURSDAY, AUG. 4 PASTA FEED, KARAOKE
NIGHT
5 p.m. Get fueled for the meet on CCC's finest pasta THEN be prepared to
laugh yourselves silly as our Campo swimmers, coaches and a few surprise
entries do their best karaoke numbers.
FRIDAY, AUG. 5 DROP-OFFS, WARM-UPS
1:30 p.m. on. Due to high school field construction and the huge crowd
expected this weekend, swimmer families are asked to drop off beach
chairs, coolers, towels, other items at the CHS Baseball Field (off
Campolindo Dr., adjacent to Campolindo Cabana Club). Since the meet warm
ups begin mid-afternoon, your best bet it to drop off items sooner than
later Friday before the crowds hit. The Campo Team area will be the site
closest to Campolindo Dr. by CCC -- it will be marked, and we will have
our pop-ups up. We may have the back CCC parking lot gate open for CCC
families only. Security guards will be posted in the area throughout the
weekend, but don't leave anything you'd hate to lose.
->The
Friday warm-up time is 3:45 to 4:15 p.m. (ready to go at 3:30 p.m.)
3:45-4:15 p.m. Warm-ups for IM swimmers at the Soda Center/CHS
pool.
5 to 7 p.m. Individual Medley (100 Yards) -- Timed Final: 7-8s through
15-18
PARKING
As you've seen from other emails, if you live anywhere close to the high
school, you are encouraged to walk. Or drop people and then go park.
Team members who don't live in or near Campolindo have been given
neighborhood parking passes to park on Campolindo streets where
designated. You will be directed by OMPA traffic personnel. These passes
are DIFFERENT than the high school parking permits given to a few team
members who are bringing in heavy items for the team itself. If you
leave during the meet, factor in reparking or walking time to make sure
your swimmers don't miss their races. Campolindo Residents: If you have
guests coming in from outside the area, please make arrangements for
them to park in your driveway or in front of your home (however, for
those of you who live near the high school, you may find street parking
will fill up fast, so encourage your guests to arrive early). Refer to
earlier emails regarding parking, if you have any questions.
CAMPO TEAM AREAS
Our between-races area is on the Campo High School baseball field, near
the back gate into our Campo Cabana Club parking lot, as noted above.
There will be snack food and beverage items available for swimmers, and
coffee for adults. Bring lunch or buy at the meet - there are plenty of
choices. NOTE: there are no loudspeakers announcing races in the team
areas. Parents and swimmers must check in with coaches well in advance
of their races to make sure they are in the CLERK OF THE COURSE (see CCC
Survival Guide) in time to race.
Bleacher seats for CCC will be in our designated area by the pool. We
have pop-ups to cover part of the area but wear hats or visors, since
it's usually very hot and sunny. Look for the CCC sign. Wear sunscreen
and wear ORANGE!
